Before the water: what is in there

Inside every jar sits one compressed plush from Series 1. Twenty styles exist, two of them rare, and the jar gives no hint which one is waiting. That is the whole game. The toy is vacuum-packed small, which is why a 3-inch character fits in a jar you can close one hand around.

Worth saying before the cap comes off: this is a one-way door. Once water touches the plush, it expands and will not fold back into the jar. Anyone hoping to peek and reseal should know there is no peeking.

Step one and two: uncap, fill to the line

The jar has a fill line printed on it. Cold or room-temperature tap water up to that line is all it takes. The line matters more than it looks: underfill and the plush may not soak evenly, overfill and the shake step turns into a splash step.

The packaging asks for adult supervision, and the water step is where it earns its keep with younger kids. A towel under the jar saves the table.

Step three: the shake

Cap back on, then a gentle shake for about 30 seconds. Gentle is the operative word. The point is to get water through the compressed plush, and a steady swirl does that as well as hard shaking.

Thirty seconds feels long to a kid holding a surprise. Counting out loud works. So does shaking to a song chorus.

Step four: open and meet the crew member

Lid off, water poured out, and the plush comes out soft, soaked and squishy. Character details are printed and embroidered, with metallic and holographic touches on some styles, so the reveal moment reads clearly even through wet fabric.

Fresh out of the jar the toy is at its squishiest. It is also wet, so the first hour is for squishing over a towel, not for the couch or the bookshelf. What happens over the next week is its own story, covered in the drying guide.

What the jar is for afterwards

The care card is blunt about this: the jar is for the reveal only, not for storage. A damp plush sealed in a jar stays damp, and that helps nobody. The jar still makes a decent pen cup or a home for the collection log pencil. The plush itself lives in open air from day one.
